In the heart of Western Visayas lies Oton, a first-class municipality known for its rich history and vibrant community. This year, Oton’s dedication to good governance and public service was once again put to the test as Mayor Sofronio L. Fusin, Jr., and Vice Mayor Jose Neil P. Olivares led the local government through the rigorous Regional Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) Assessment.
The SGLG is a prestigious standard used by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to evaluate local governments across various performance criteria. It serves as a testament to a local government unit’s (LGU) effectiveness and efficiency in delivering essential public services.
The assessment was conducted by esteemed DILG Evaluators Ms. Ruth Leda and Ms. Febie S. Ibojos at the Office of the Sangguniang Bayan, located in Brgy. Sitio Manue, Tagbac Sur, Oton, Iloilo. The evaluators meticulously reviewed Oton’s compliance with the SGLG parameters, which include financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection, peace and order, business-friendliness and competitiveness, environmental management, and tourism, culture and the arts.
Mayor Fusin and Vice Mayor Olivares have been at the forefront of Oton’s quest for excellence. Their leadership has been instrumental in fostering a culture of transparency, accountability, and innovation within the municipality. The local government’s participation in the SGLG Assessment underscores their unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of governance.
As Oton awaits the results of this year’s assessment, the community remains hopeful that their leaders’ efforts will be recognized with the coveted seal. Regardless of the outcome, it is clear that under Mayor Fusin and Vice Mayor Olivares’ guidance, Oton is on a steadfast path towards sustainable development and exemplary governance.
