In response to the recent massive flooding affecting several barangays in Oton, Mayor Sofronio L. Fusin Jr. convened an urgent meeting with Iloilo City Mayor Raisa Treñas, former Mayor Jerry Treñas, and key officials from DPWH Region VI, including OIC-Regional Director Joel F. Limpengco and Assistant Regional Director Jose Al V. Fruto.

Held at Iloilo City Hall, the meeting focused on pressing flood-related concerns, particularly the siltation along the Batiano River (Arevalo area) and the ongoing infrastructure project of City DPWH along Iloilo River in Mohon, which has raised alarm over its impact on floodwaters flowing toward Oton.

Mayor Fusin emphasized the urgent need for coordinated interagency action. The dialogue concluded with strong commitments from DPWH to immediately address the identified issues and for the City Government of Iloilo to issue a Cease-and-Desist Order on the Mohon project pending further assessment.

This move underscores Oton’s proactive stance in protecting its communities and calling for regional collaboration in mitigating future flood risks.
