Mayor Sofronio L. Fusin, Jr. and Vice Mayor Jose Neil P. Olivares took the lead in a significant community event today, where they spearheaded the distribution of affordable and nutritious food items to the households of Ogtonganon beneficiaries. This event, held at the New Oton Multi-Purpose Gym, was part of the Food Redemption Day of the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Walang Gutom Program (WGP).

The DSWD Walang Gutom Program is a vital government-initiated, anti-hunger initiative aimed at reducing food insecurity in the country. The program focuses not only on providing immediate food assistance but also on fostering lasting behavioral and social changes among food-poor families. Through its workshops and activities, the program empowers beneficiaries by teaching them practical skills in preparing affordable, nutritious, and tasty meals using locally available ingredients. By doing so, the program works toward improving the overall health and well-being of families, while also promoting self-sufficiency and resilience against hunger. This event is a testament to the government’s commitment to ensuring that every Filipino family, particularly those in underserved communities, has access to sufficient and healthy food.
