On March 28, 2025, the Municipality of Oton proudly hosted the 1st Cluster Solid Waste Management–Technical Working Group (SWM-TWG) Meeting, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss innovative strategies and reinforce collaborative efforts for sustainable waste management.
The meeting included representatives from municipalities within the cluster—Oton, Tigbauan, Igbaras, Guimbal, San Joaquin, Miag-ao, and Tubungan—as well as members from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ Environmental Management Bureau (DENR EMB) and Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR CENRO).
This landmark gathering focused on addressing pressing environmental issues and aligning local government initiatives with national waste management goals. Topics ranged from optimizing waste collection systems, improving recycling programs, and enhancing public education on proper waste segregation. Participants also shared best practices and challenges faced within their respective municipalities, fostering an exchange of ideas for effective problem-solving.
The Municipality of Oton, as the host, showcased its proactive leadership and commitment to environmental sustainability. This meeting was not just a platform for discussion but a call to action—a unifying effort to build resilient communities that embrace eco-friendly practices.
Moving forward, the Technical Working Group aims to implement the resolutions and action plans formulated during the meeting to benefit residents and ensure the protection of the environment for future generations.
