The newly restored Oton Saga Mural, a significant part of the town’s cultural heritage, was unveiled in a momentous event led by Mayor Sofronio Fusin, Jr. and Vice Mayor Jose Neil P. Olivares. This restoration, part of the second phase of the Oton Plaza Restoration/Beautification Project, clearly demonstrates the administration’s steadfast dedication to preserving and safeguarding local heritage.
During his speech, Mayor Fusin highlighted the necessity and objective of his administration’s preservation endeavors. “𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘖𝘨𝘵𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘶𝘴,” he stated.
The restoration of the Oton Saga Mural revitalizes the physical structure and breathes new life into the stories and values it represents. It serves as a reminder of the town’s past, a source of pride for the present generation, and a legacy for future Ogtonganons.
The mural, designed by Timoteo Jumayao, was first unveiled by Mrs. Perla S. Zulueta on September 13, 1973, during the tenure of then-Mayor Lazaro “Nene” M. Zulueta.
